Contains a memoir detailing Balls's military service that describes his responsibilities held at training camp and a catastrophic magazine explosion which killed thirteen fellow soldiers. Also discusses his maritime assignment on a destroyer guarding the Panama Canal. Includes an account of persecutions suffered due to his being the only crew member of his faith. Also describes his survival of a fierce Spanish Influenza epidemic that killed two-thirds of his crew. Contains Balls's military enlistment record, honorary discharge papers, and letter of recognition issued by the U.S. government upon his death. Also includes a map showing the location of Balls's military camps.
